Talk about desire across differences

Different levels or timing of desire do not establish whose preference is correct. The conversation should respect each person’s limits and experience.

Describe rather than label

Say what you miss or find difficult and ask how the other person feels. Avoid labels such as normal, broken or selfish. A difference can involve practical capacity, health, stress or relationship concerns that a website cannot distinguish for you.

Keep requests separate from obligations

Ask what kind of connection is wanted rather than proposing a required frequency. A person can care about a partner’s loneliness without consenting to an activity. No one owes sex as reassurance, compromise or proof of affection.

Know when to seek help

A worrying change in desire or medication concern belongs with a qualified clinician. Do not stop prescribed treatment based on this page. Appropriate relationship support may help with recurring distress, and fear of declining needs attention beyond joint planning.

Have we made room for both experiences without assigning one person the task of matching the other?
